KLUP 2/13 Texas Comptroller Susan Combs

Texas Comptroller Susan Combs reported that the rate of growth of state collected sales tax revenues is slowing. Sales tax reveunes are up 5.2 percent compared to January 2007 and "While growth remains firm, it is slower than that of the past two years," Combs says. "This moderation is consistent with the slowing economy." The comptroller also distributed $640.8 million in local sales taxes to Texas cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts in February. This is up 5.1 percent from the local sales tax distribution in February 2007. The City of San Antonio received a sales tax revenue check of $23.2 million this month. This is up 1.86 percent from February 2007. Bexar County does not collect a sales tax. But VIA Metropolitan Transit and the San Antonio Advanced Transportation District received checks for $10.6 million and $5 million, respectively.
