Lee High School opened up with its first class of students -- 73 freshmen. Also, 88 sixth-grade students at Nimitz Middle School were enrolled in a feeder program for the new academy. This year, two more STEM programs are getting under way at a couple of local charter schools. students participating in the district's program will be immersed in science and math education throughout high school in all of their core courses, even English and social studies. By the time they graduate, students will have earned between 12 and 24 college credit hours in math and science and they will have a head start over other entering college students regarding what the college experience is all about.
